Family Medicine

Family medicine is a core part of primary healthcare. A family physician is often the first doctor to consult for a wide range of health concerns, from preventive checkups and general health assessment to the initial management of acute or chronic complaints.

During a consultation, the physician reviews symptoms and medical history, performs the necessary measurements and examination, monitors chronic conditions and, when needed, orders tests or refers the patient to an appropriate specialist.

Residents of the community can register with FamilyMed and choose a family physician in order to receive state-guaranteed free medical care and services according to the applicable procedure.

  • fever, general weakness, cough, sore throat, or other signs of an acute illness
  • changes in blood pressure, prolonged fatigue, or a change in general well-being
  • the need for regular follow-up of chronic conditions
  • questions about preventive checkups, vaccinations, or a healthy lifestyle
  • unclear symptoms when it is not yet obvious which specialist to see

Assessment begins with a medical history and physical examination. Depending on the symptoms, laboratory or instrumental tests and consultations with other specialists may be needed. The family physician coordinates the next steps and follows the patient's health over time.
